Spring term 2
We are currently working from the book "Charlotte's web". So far we have written a diary entry as if we are Fern and we are writing all about the day we saved Wilbur. We have been using lots of exciting adjectives to make our work more interesting to read. Some of our work is displayed on our classroom windows.
We have also been improving our dialogue skills by pretending to be barnyard animals and giving them voices. The children found this really enjoyable and it has helped them to realise that people speak in different ways. We then wrote a dialogue and performed it to the rest of our class.
We will be writing a non-chronological report, a newspaper article and a story of our own over the rest of the term.
We have just began our topic of Mass. The children have enjoyed weighing objects and investigating which object weight the most or have the most mass. We have been looking at comparing different weights and converting weights from kg to grams.
Our current topic is light and shadow. We have been spending a lot of time outside (when the sun is out) and creating our own shadows to help us understand how shadows are formed and how they change throughout the day. We have made puppets and used these to create our own puppet show for the rest of our class.
Our topic this term is Ancient Egypt. We have really enjoyed learning about what life was like all that time ago, how people dressed and particularly what they Egyptians did with dead bodies. The children were most interested to see how Egyptians pulled the brain out through someone’s nose! We will be practicing our mummification skills on tomatoes and observing what happens to them over the next 2 weeks.
