Key worker children from yrs 2- 6 really enjoyed the 'natural world' theme during children's art week. They used resources outside to create their own paint brushes and then created a group work of art!
Unfortunately due to Covid-19, 4EB never did get the chance to plant their flowers outside in the Forest School area. They were able to take them home instead.

4EB's first forest school session

4LM were very excited about Christmas so we decided to make some Christmas decorations. We went outside to cut some wood to make reindeer. We cut the wood in to different size pieces to make a body, legs, a neck, head and antlers. The children were supervised to put the parts together using a glue gun. What do you think of our creations? 
On Friday the whole class went out and continued with their Sound session by learning how to make a Kazoo! Mrs Milbourne showed the children how to use tools such as a saw, billhook and knife. Then they worked in pairs to help each other make their own instrument. Mrs Morgan also showed the rest of the class how to use sign language to communicate whilst they were waiting for their turn. Ask the children in 4LM to tell you how they made their Kazoos - did they work?

This week, the children went on a Sound Safari to see what different sounds we could hear. We discussed all of our senses (touch, taste, sound, sight and smell) and what it would be like if one of them was taken away. The children closed their eyes at different points around school so they could really take in what they were hearing. Here are some of the things the children heard:


  • cars
  • wind
  • children playing
  • teachers talking
  • dog barking
  • aeroplane


Afterwards the children came up with their own game that involved taking away or using one or more of the senses. There were completely different ideas from each group and they worked really well as a team throughout the week.



This week, 4LM made some replica Roman pottery! They looked at some sheets and discussed the different shapes and styles of pottery and what they might have been used for. Mrs Milbourne showed them how to mould the clay in to similar shapes and then they had a go themselves. It was quite messy! Can you tell what the pottery they made was used for?


For the rest of the week, the groups went outside and played a Roman numerals game. They had to match the numbers and numerals to win!

This week 4LM became archaeologists and went digging in the Forest School site. Amazingly, they discovered lots of exciting Roman Artefacts! See if you can tell what they found...
