Autumn Two🍂

To begin our new learning topic 'Autumn' we talked about how some families celebrate Halloween and bonfire night. The children read the story 'Room on the broom' and talked about the characters and made a potion using natural materials. We also learnt about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate bonfire night, afterwards we made our own colourful firework pictures. We invited our parents in for a firework workshop where we had hot dogs for snack, enjoyed lots of firework activities with our grown ups and watched the sparkler display.

To continue our 'Autumn' topic we had a bear that had blown into the nursery. The children read the story 'Bear snores on', we talked about how some animals need to hibernate and we agreed the bear could say with us in nursery for a few days before we find him a cave to hibernate in. While the bear was in nursery the children painted some lovely portraits of the bear, they measured him and his friends using the wooden blocks and he had snack. The bear went to hibernate in our cave in the garden and to let everyone know to be quiet because the bear was hibernating the children used their mark making skills to make signs and stuck them to the door.

Remembrance Day

To finish off our ‘Autumn’ topic the children read the story ‘It was a cold dark night’. We talked about we are going to Hartshill Hayes to hibernate our hedgehogs like in the story. The children enjoyed their trip to Hartshill Hayes where they found the right place for the hedgehogs to hibernate, stopped off for a hot chocolate and then got to have a little play in the playground.

Our last topic which we learnt about was ‘Christmas’. The children were told we would be performing a nativity to our grown ups and we needed to practise songs for the performance. During our topic we had a visit from a mischievous elf who delivered us some advent calendars. While we were practising our play we learnt about the nativity story and drew a picture of the nativity.

We welcomed our grown ups again for a Christmas workshop where we enjoyed having hot chocolate and decorating biscuits with our grown ups and taking part in lots of Christmas activities. The children were also very excited to have a visit from Santa in the last week of term and enjoyed their Christmas dinner on the last day before the Christmas holidays.
